Aluminium, Gel Climsel PCM (Water, Salt hydrates)

Discarded Ingots is a series of aluminum art pieces transforming the identity of an industrial machining waste into functional ornaments.

By focusing on the collection of a repetitive discarded aluminum elements, “Discarded Ingots” questions the value of a mass produced waste and introduce an analog solution to an industrial problem.

Baptiste Comte uses the systemic waste to mimic and scale up the geometry of a computer component, the heat sink and highlights its properties to regulate heat in a room. By creating covers for architectural products , the excess of heat is absorbed, stored, and released when the temperature cools by incorporating a phase change material that melts above 21ºC, and solidifies below it, releasing heat back into the room.

With a focus on aluminum’s conductivity and its reflectivity, this work is an attempt to revise our perception for industrial resources by redefining its identity; transforming those items being only mechanical to a more evocative level as architecture jewelries.
Each element is polished by hand and the back support is anodized with a natural color of aluminum.

BAPTISTE COMTE

is a designer graduated from Design Academy of Eindhoven. Combining an analytical disciplined skill from previous law studies and an empirical approach from the design realm, his practice is balanced between a strong sense of observation paired with a creative and playful approach. Baptiste gradually sees design as a medium to manifest the link between thoughts and matters within a specific context. In his design process, he focuses on revealing new responses beyond overlooked material properties through an intuitive and thoughtful investigation.

Throughout a game of structure and dynamism, he tries to stretch the potential of a material letting its simplicity emerges : he strongly believes that beauty hides into details, waiting for their value to be discovered throughout already known properties. Baptiste’s work balances between the functional and the emotional experience that a design can create around forms or tactility ; searching for an emotional and/or sensorial interaction with the piece.
